WHITE Bridal Event Coming up!

Even though 2008 is just beginning, for most wedding photographers we are looking towards 2009 for weddings already. A cool way to help polish off 2008 and start looking into wedding bookings for 2009 is a wonderful bridal event that we are lucky to be a part of for the last few years. We are one of a selected number of vendors that participate in the WHITE Bridal Event, sponsored by Noltes Bridal and KC Weddings. It is coming up on Sunday, February 24th from Noon-4 p.m. at the Westin Crown Center.

WHITE really is a one-of-a-kind event for engaged couples and their parents. There are only a select group of vendors for each category so when you are looking for a florist, an invitation person, or photographer :), this is a great environment to do so. Plus there is a great lunch and fashion show that you attend as well as information sessions by various vendors. Wirken Photography is going to be doing an informational session on photography, so be sure to check us out!!!

Check out the link that talks about the information on how to get tickets, directions, etc for the show. Hope to see you there!

Long time no chat! Plus a big website update!

I know I know I know. I am really really bad at this blog. I went to a wonderful gathering of local photographers the other night hosted by the great people over at PhotoMementos in Lee's Summit. They do great work and have a sweet studio. Anyway, I got tons of comments on how bad I am at updating the blog. Well tell me something I don't know! Just kidding. So I will really really try to get some stuff on here.

Things are just nuts around here and the blog gets the short end of the stick you know?

However, cool things are brewing on the blog front over at Wirken. We are working on getting a totally custom blog made. That way I will forced to update it as it will be to cool not to!

Anyway, I have spent a ton of time lately updating all of my wedding galleries on the site as well as adding some slideshows from some recent weddings.

We also have a new front image. We are going to try and change the front image out at least once a month. For this month it was my turn for a front image. I chose this one from Sarah and Tom's wedding last summer. I just LOVE this moment. Sara's dad just adores her. This was the father/daughter dance and I just love that you can totally feel what he is feeling, like there was no one else in the room.

Check it out!

Charlotte + Patrick

This was a super fun couple. They were just fun to be around, they have a great family and they love Jimmy Buffett. How could anyone not like them. Enjoy some images from their mid-October wedding.

Some prep stuff:

Charlotte (and her dad) making her way to the wedding/reception site:
Waiting before the ceremony. Can you get over this light pouring in the window?

A great backdrop for a wedding. Can you make KC look any better?

Some fun portraits. Just an FYI:Patrick works at this awesome privately owned independent movie theater. Here they are enjoying themselves on location:

On to the reception:

Fins to the left!!!!
(if you have no idea what I am talking about then it is your loss.)

As always I have the best intentions to post more soon. So stay tuned and we will get more up ASAP!

Pam

Finally posting some more!

So -- again we have not been as good at posting as we would like to be. I have picked some images from a recent engagement session that we thought were kind of fun. These were a great couple that are getting married out of the country. So, although we will not be doing their wedding we were thrilled that they wanted us to do their engagment session. We got some great stuff and met another great set of people.

Enjoy:

See you all again soon!

Our New Addition

So -- I have been waiting for Tyler to get on and blog about this for a week now. You would think that he has had a bit on his plate or something. :) Regardless I am excited to post a few images of the newest Wirken. Zachary Michael joined the clan on Thursday, November 8, 2007. He weighed in at 7 lbs 2 oz and 18 3/4 long.

He is doing so well at home. He eats like a horse...sleeps pretty well and is adjusting to life in a loud house. Alex just loves him so much and is wanting to help me out all the time.

Enjoy just a few pics. We did not want to go overboard. :)

First image of Zach in the warmer:

Sorry for the graphic image, we just thought this was too funny. The poor little guy was scrunched in me for so long...this was his first real good stretch of his life:

Zach snug as a bug in a rug:

This is the first time that I saw Alex since the day before when I went into labor. He was a little freaked out in the hospital, but was happy to see me, and super curious about his new little brother.
Thanks for looking as always. We love sharing good news with everyone and this is certainly good news to us.

Take care. Will post again soon!

Hey Nancy!!! Here ya go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys-

Well true to my name I am behind on blogging again. So if you read my last post I made mention that I owed a certain mother of the bride that is a faithful watcher of this here blog a post of her daughters wedding! Well here it is.

A bit of background about this wedding. Aimee and her mom came in to meet with me and it was one of those meetings where things just clicked. They were totally down to earth and real and I loved how when they were leaving Aimee just turns to her mom and says- "so why are we just not booking this?"- the rest is history.

This was a great wedding. Full of emotion, silliness, and minor disasters. I really enjoyed being a part of this family for a day. It is also the first time I have received an actual gift on the wedding day from a bride, as we are literally about to walk out the door to the ceremony! As if they had nothing else going on! They gave me a gift card to Chili's!! Long story short Aimee and I recently talked of our love of Chili's, so her and Eric, the groom, gave me a gift card with a big "THANKS" on it. That was awesome.

So here ya go mom! I promised a blog post in return for a comment or two on the blog. Since you have already done your part and figured out how to post a comment. Here is my end of the deal! Enjoy!

Aimee has a 6 year-old son and I just loved watching the bond they have. Love this stolen moment while two of the bridesmaids were getting ready.

Eric the groom testing the smoke detectors in the hotel room!
This was kind of fun. Aimee's mom sowed an old handkerchief into the lining of the dress as Aimee's "something old".
So I spoke about minor disasters. Well this was one of them. Two of the girls dresses would not zip all of the way up minutes before needing to leave for the ceremony. They ended up having to have them sowed on! No one was the wiser.
Aimee's son working very intently on buttoning his tux.

Everyone but Aimee and her parents leave for the ceremony.
Like I said- emotion everywhere!
Sweet light on Aimee and her dad in the car outside of the church.

Great moment when Aimee finally meets Eric at the end of the aisle.

Eric was hilarious during the ceremony. Here he is checking out his new bling.
The exit.
This was so awesome! There literally was a mini carnival going on downtown by Union Station. We did not have much time but I am soooo glad we stopped.
Aimee get a hug from the two moms.
Nice!

Now I have been to a bunch of weddings and see a lot, but this moment actually had me fighting back tears. Maybe it is because I have a 2 year-old son or maybe I am just a softie, but this was awesome. During the mother/son dance the DJ asked for any mom and sons in the crowd to join in and dance with Eric and his mom. Here is Aimee and her son dancing. Such a wonderful moment to witness.

An emotional dance with dad.

I have to explain this one. It was pretty funny. First off how many people do not know how to do the YMCA? Well Eric didn't. So here is his mom teaching him how. Notice how everyone else is doing it right and he isn't? Pretty funny.

Finally for mom-

Thanks for letting us be a part of this great day!!!

Wedding Photo Journalism workshops!!!!!!

Hey all-

Long time no talk from me! But I must say very proud of miss Pam for keeping you all updated. Stay tuned later today or tomorrow for a blog post from me of a recent wedding where I promised the mom I would do one!!

Anyway, I wanted to post for photographers out there some info on some great workshops I am honored to be a part of next year.

First off is a workshop I have talked about here before that I am a part of each year. It is down in Dallas, Tx. The Foundation workshop is an amazing experience and if you are looking to better your story telling skills and Photojournalism skills- this is a wonderful way to do it. Unfortunately it is full for next year but check out the site as they also have a great forum you can join and get some great critics etc...

However there is good news!!! Even though Foundation is full for next year. There is a wonderful new workshop that I am going to be a part of in July of 08. Emilie Sommer is the founder of this one which is based on the same idea of Foundation. It is called Roots workshop and is shaping up to be an incredible workshop!! Not only is it in a great location, Cape Cod, it is staffed by some amazing PJ shooters, one of which is a two-time Pulitzer winning photographer. Some of which are also staff at Foundation workshop. I met Emilie at Foundation last year and we quickly became friends. She is fantastic. Wonderful person and very talented. She used to shoot for USA today!!! Anyway, these are wonderful opportunities for growth and I HIGHLY recommend anyone no matter your skill level to attend. I would not be where I am today without workshops like these two!! Totally worth the investment. Check out the Roots website and see.
